Working Together: CURE Zimbabwe and World Vision Zimbabwe Partner to Bring Hope to Children with Orthopedic Conditions

CURE Children’s Hospital of Zimbabwe (CURE Zimbabwe) and World Vision Zimbabwe (WVZ) recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement to collaborate in their work to help children made vulnerable by disability. This new partnership will allow CURE to bring medical and ministry care to children with treatable disabilities in the most remote and impoverished communities, where healthcare is minimal.

CURE Zimbabwe, located in Bulawayo, is the first and only hospital in the country to provide orthopedic care for children with treatable disabilities such as clubfoot, bowed legs, and knock knees—regardless of their economic status.

The hospital has 60 beds, three operating rooms, rehabilitation services, a pharmacy, and an outpatient clinic. World Vision Zimbabwe is the country’s largest humanitarian organization, and they are embedded in communities where poverty is high and access to healthcare is minimal—the very communities CURE serves.

Through the partnership, World Vision will help identify and transport patients to CURE Zimbabwe.

“This impactful collaboration will promote the synergy between our two organizations and focus on transparency, accountability, empowerment, and burden sharing,” said Mr. Assan Golowa, the World Vision Zimbabwe country director. “The main objective of this partnership is to broaden our collective impact on community development initiatives, especially in areas related to health and development.”

This strategic partnership will allow both organizations to extend their reach and impact on community development initiatives, particularly in areas connected to health and development. World Vision will help identify and transport children in desperate need of surgeries to CURE. In addition, our organizations will partner to develop grants, collaborate on research that improves programs, and advocate together to raise awareness about disability. All of this means we can serve more children with the medical and ministry care they need!

This partnership has already benefitted children such as Vimbainashe, a five-year-old girl born with arthrogryposis. Arthrogryposis is a condition that causes stiffness in the joints. It can affect one or more joints in the body and, in some cases, make it difficult or impossible to move the affected joints.

Because of her condition, Vimbainashe had mobility challenges. Her grandmother had to spend most of her day looking after her, so she couldn’t work full-time. She couldn’t afford the medical bills and transportation to Bulawayo for care. Thankfully, World Vision Zimbabwe was able to help provide the transportation they needed to get to CURE Zimbabwe, where Vimbainashe is now receiving life-changing medical care.

“By partnering with World Vision Zimbabwe, CURE Zimbabwe will be able to treat more children from more remote communities than ever before,” said Jonathan Simpson, executive director of CURE Zimbabwe. “As brothers and sisters in Christ, this is a great new opportunity to bring hope and the surgery that brings healing to children in need who are loved by God and whom we are called to serve.”

The two organizations are committed to working together to achieve their common goals and positively impact the lives of children in need. We are grateful for partnerships like this—and the generous support of our donors—that allow CURE to help more kids heal.
