CURE Zimbabwe History

Established in April 2021, CURE Zimbabwe is the first and only hospital in the country of 14 million people to provide orthopedic care for disabilities such as clubfoot, bowed legs, and knock knees to children regardless of their economic status. The teaching hospital has 50 beds, three operating theaters, and an outpatient clinic. The hospital was refurbished by the Zimbabwe Orthopedic Trust in partnership with the Zimbabwean government and is located adjacent to United Bulawayo Hospital in Bulawayo.

Established in 2021

Professor Chris Lavy always dreamed of opening a hospital in Zimbabwe. This finally gained momentum in 2017, when discussions with the Ministry of Health led to the consideration of renovating the Robbie Gibson Infectious Diseases ward of the United Bulawayo Hospital. This premises burnt down and was condemned in 2013. CURE signed a MOU with the Ministry of Health, and a Public Private Partnership was formed allowing the hospital’s renovation, operation, and transfer to happen over a thirty-year period. This Public Private Partnership with the Ministry of Health of Zimbabwe demonstrates that CURE is not just operating in Zimbabwe for the here and now by treating children but also contributing toward the training and equipping of the nation’s medical capacity.

900+ surgeries each year

We celebrate God’s provision this year. CURE Zimbabwe has provided 3,285 outpatient visits, performed 970+ life-changing surgeries, provided 14 training events for healthcare professionals, and shared the gospel and the love of Jesus with over 9,250 people!

Construction on New Children’s Ward Begins

In February 2022, in partnership with the Tim Tebow Foundation, we broke ground on a new 42-bed children’s ward at CURE Zimbabwe. The new facility will allow three times as many children to receive life-changing surgeries they need–that’s more than 2,000 children each year! More than just medical care, each child will tangibly experience the loving care of Christ.
