In Zimbabwe, where many families struggle to put together a consistent daily meal, affording a Bible can easily be considered a luxury. As a result, many Christians have never owned a personal copy of the Bible, a reality often evident at CURE Children’s Hospital of Zimbabwe (CURE Zimbabwe).
Bibles for All
Nhlanhla, a CURE patient caregiver in his fifties, confessed he had never held a Bible. He is just one example of many. And, unfortunately, the Word of God remains inaccessible to a significant portion of the population. But CURE Zimbabwe’s spiritual ministry department is working to change that—and to change lives.
Patients and caregivers receive Bibles free of charge during their stay at the ward. This generous initiative is made possible by a donation from a kind supporter of CURE Zimbabwe.
Memory, a woman from Binga, expressed her gratitude after receiving a Bible from the staff: “I am grateful for the gift of the Bible I got from CURE. I would only hear Bible stories when our pastor read them to us in church. I am glad that from now on, I can read and refer to the Bible during my spare time.”

The Power of God’s Word
Owning a Bible empowers individuals to cultivate a personal relationship with God. In a world overflowing with misinformation and false prophets, access to Scripture is crucial. Romans 12:2 further emphasizes this, urging us to “not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.”
Equipping caregivers and patients with the Bible allows them to discern truth and build a foundation for their faith.

CURE also recognizes the importance of catering to different needs, so patients and caregivers receive Bibles in their local languages, ensuring comprehension. Children, however, benefit from colorful, engaging kids’ Bibles.
Nomazwe, CURE Zimbabwe’s Child Mentor, explains, “The kids’ Bibles help children relate to Bible stories in an amazing way. Pictures and other illustrations make kids understand the stories in a way they would not if they were given ordinary Bibles.”

CURE’s Bible ministry serves as a vital complement to CURE’s evangelistic efforts. According to Grace, CURE Zimbabwe’s Spiritual Director, teaching people about Jesus’s love but not equipping them with the Word of God is a fruitless effort.
Without Scripture as a constant source of guidance and inspiration, newfound faith can easily fade. Psalm 119:105 beautifully captures the illuminating power of God’s Word: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” CURE’s Bible ministry ensures this light reaches those who need it most, empowering individuals to grow in their faith and build a lasting connection with the divine.
