CURE Children’s Hospital of Zimbabwe (CURE Zimbabwe) has joined forces with the Higher Life Foundation (HLF) in a transformative partnership.
This collaboration, which began in 2022, has empowered CURE Zimbabwe to reach 500 vulnerable children, gifting them not just surgeries but a future brimming with possibilities. HLF pledged a USD $90,000 grant for 2022-2023 and another $90,000 for 2023-2024 to directly support surgeries for these children.
Hope for Zimbabwe’s Most Vulnerable
CURE Zimbabwe is a haven for children ostracized because of their disabilities. These young souls arrive with painful stories of rejection and isolation. But within the hospital’s walls, they encounter world-class surgeons, compassionate staff, and a team dedicated to healing both body and spirit.
CURE Zimbabwe offers a comprehensive healing journey, including pre-surgery evaluations, surgical care, physical therapy, and personalized mobility devices. Every step is infused with the warmth of human connection, where listening ears, heartfelt prayers, and the love of Jesus provide hope and encouragement.
“These children come to us carrying more than physical burdens,” says Jonathan Simpson, CURE Zimbabwe’s Executive Director. “These disabilities create barriers to education, social inclusion, and a fulfilling life, but surgery removes these barriers and paves the way for a brighter future.”
CURE’s partnership with HLF is a natural fit, as the organization has been supporting orphaned and vulnerable children in Africa through education and material support since 1996.
Recognizing CURE Zimbabwe’s life-changing work, HLF has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local healthcare initiatives and easing the financial burden of patients seeking treatment. This partnership exemplifies the vital role local Zimbabwean companies can play in transforming the lives of their fellow citizens.
Following the inspiring example set by HLF, other local companies like Stanbic Bank and Ingwebu Breweries have also joined the movement, contributing their resources to fund surgeries and further bolster CURE Zimbabwe’s capacity to heal.
A Bridge to a Brighter Future
Thanks to the HLF grant, four-year-old Elsa received the life-changing surgery she needed. Elsa’s bowed leg caused her pain and hindered her ability to walk, but her determined grandmother persisted in seeking help despite initial hesitation from other family members.
After local doctors offered no solutions, Elsa’s grandmother took her to CURE Zimbabwe, where she had surgery to straighten her leg funded by the grant. Now, Elsa can walk freely and confidently pursue her dreams of becoming a gymnast.
CURE Zimbabwe and HLF’s continued partnership ensures even more children like Elsa will receive the life-changing surgeries they need.
